Luca is an upcoming 2021 American computer-animated coming-of-age comedy film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Pixar Animation Studios to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is directed by Enrico Casarosa (in his feature directorial debut) and produced by Andrea Warren.

Luca is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2021.

Premise

Set in a beautiful seaside town on the Italian Riviera, the original animated feature is a coming-of-age story about one young boy experiencing an unforgettable summer filled with gelato, pasta and endless scooter rides. Luca shares these adventures with his newfound best friend, but all the fun is threatened by a deeply-held secret: he is a sea monster from another world just below the water’s surface.[1]

Production

On July 30, 2020, Pixar announced a new film titled Luca, with a synopsis about a boy named Luca as he experiences an unforgettable summer in a seaside town on the Italian Riviera, on Twitter.[2]. Jadon Sand will voice the main character.[2]. On August 1, 2020, Auli'i Cravalho, Mike Moh and Emile Hirsch joined the voice cast with Amanda Seyfried as Ariyah Tandersuion.[2]. As always, John Ratzenberger will appear in the film as an undisclosed role. Also in August 2020, Chrissie Fit and Mark Ruffalo joined the cast[2] On November 24, 2020, Noah Schnapp, James Franco, David Cross, Nicolas Cage, Claire Holt, Jenna Ortega, Sara Serraiocco, Marco D'Amore, Nicole Kidman and Indiana Massara joined the cast[2]. On November 26, 2020, Nick Robinson joined the cast of the film.[2]
